The Research Students Centre (RSC) assists you in working through the administrative processes associated with your higher degree research course.  We are here to make your research journey as smooth as possible.
The RSC is multi-functional with excellent professional staff who care about you and therefore ensure that you understand the candidature journey which features a series of key milestones reports.  Submitting reports will help you manage your time and resources effectively.  It will also help you in planning to participate in workshops and training offered to assist you in completing your degree and launching your research career.

The RSC provides services in the areas of admission, enrolment, orientation, candidature, training, scholarships, and examinations.  We gather student feedback on a regular basis about all aspects of the higher degree research experience. And we are here to assist you in resolving difficulties and complaints.

Advice re 3 and 4 Year International Student PhD
  • Visa reimbursement for extension to 3 Year Visa for Doctoral candidates (current 1/11/11)
Current students on successful application for extension to their 3 year candidature date and finalisation of their new visa can complete a QUT supplier maintenance form to request reimbursement for related visa processing costs for the student only.  This form should be  submitted to the Research Students Centre (research.enquiries@qut.edu.au) , with the original receipt as evidence of date and amount of payment. A credit card statement is not sufficient.  The funds will be reimbursed via a bank transfer. QUT cannot reimburse (a) costs for family of the student or (b) any associated costs such as the label fee. Processing can take up to 4-6 weeks depending on the of the application. For a visa extension, students should be applying for a visa with the extended eCOE (electronic confirmation of enrolment) end date (ie new Maximum Candidature Date) plus 6 months in the first instance. The extra 6 months equates to the marking period which is now automatically allowed by the government for the purposes of thesis examination. Note you will need to show evidence of Overseas Health Cover for this full period.  You are encouraged to check with the relevant websites to confirm arrangements at the time of making application.
